Mrs. Rana Abbas

Thank you for taking time to learn a little about me. I am a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor. I am trained in, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Eye Movement Destination Reprocessing (EMDR), and Mindfulness Therapy. I practice Couple Counseling, Family Counseling, and Individual Counseling. I empower all my clients without compromising empathy. Whatever the reason any individual, couple, or family comes to me, I challenge their skillset to solve problems and restore resolve; not simply provide short-term solutions. The first step to achieve this is to build a rapport with essential empathy and unconditional positive regard. I believe in relationships. Seems a little elementary but one’s physical, mental, and overall wellness is dependent on relations that we have with each other. We are social creatures so no matter how large or small one’s family is, and/or social circle we were all meant to establish and grow relationships. No level of true self-reflection would escape this fact. I witnessed this to be true in all my clients as with myself.

What can couples expect to take away from sessions?

As you are struggling in your relationships and looking for a safe space to heal and grow? I help and empower couples to overcome the difficulties in their relationships while building a better relationship with themselves and each other’s. Together, we can identify what’s working and what needs improvement. Help the couples to identify what areas they feel their biggest strengths.

My strength as a therapist is being able to support the wants and needs of the couple. I may have a way of solving certain things for myself, but every couple is different. Recognizing that each couple has different skill sets based on their personality and their life experiences is vital. I think never of “what would I do” rather how can this couple get what they want.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) 

EFT seeks to work with couples more constructively. It focuses on emotions as the key to a person’s relationship needs and helps to develop emotional awareness, compassion between partners, and acceptance. In couples therapy, EFT can lend strength to the emotional bond between partners and create a more secure attachment. 

The Gottman Method

The Gottman methodbased on many years of extensive research. It is based on a thorough assessment at the beginning of treatment, which is used to inform the course of couple’s therapy. Chiefly, the Gottman Method emphasizes addressing three elements of a couple’s relationship: their friendship, how they manage conflicts, and the creation of shared meaning.
